What Is Summarized Sahih Al-Bukhari?
Imam Al-Bukhari's Sahih is the most trusted collection of the Prophet's ﷺ sayings and actions, but the full work runs to many volumes and repeats the same hadith in different chapters whenever it supports a new ruling. Imam Az-Zubaidi made it manageable for the ordinary reader. He kept each hadith once, removed the repetitions and the long chains of narrators, and kept the name of the Companion who narrated it, so the text of the hadith comes straight to the point.
The result is a single volume that keeps the order of Imam Al-Bukhari's own "books" and chapters. You read the same hadith that are in the full Sahih, in the same arrangement, without needing the whole set. For most families and students, this is the most practical way to own and actually read Sahih Al-Bukhari from cover to cover.
How Each Page Is Laid Out
Each page is set in two columns: the Arabic text of the hadith on one side and Dr. Muhsin Khan's English translation on the other. The hadith are numbered in sequence, and every chapter heading is given in both Arabic and English, for example "The Book of Jihad" (كتاب الجهاد) and "The Book of Conditions" (كتاب الشروط). The book name runs along the top of each page, so it is easy to see where you are. Where a word needs explaining, the translator adds a short note in brackets.
What Is Inside the Book
Before the hadith begin, the book opens with certificates of approval from Shaykh Abdul-Aziz bin Abdullah bin Baz of the Presidency of Islamic Research, Ifta, Call and Propagation in Saudi Arabia, from Shaykh Umar Muhammad Fullata, General Secretary of the Islamic University of Madinah, and from Prof. Dr. Muhammad Amin Al-Misri of the same university. These are followed by a preface to the new edition, a biography of Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan, a note from the publisher, a chapter on the miracles of the Prophet ﷺ, an introduction to Imam Bukhari and his book, a guide to the transliteration used, and a full list of contents.
The main part of the book then follows Imam Al-Bukhari's order, beginning with revelation, faith and knowledge and moving through purification, prayer, zakat, fasting, Hajj, trade and business, wills, jihad, the stories of the prophets, the life of the Prophet ﷺ and his military expeditions, the explanation of the Qur'an, marriage, food, medicine, good manners, supplication and more. At the back there is a glossary of Arabic terms and an appendix that explains why Allah sent prophets and messengers, Tawheed, the Shahada, Shirk, Kufr and Nifaq, which makes the volume useful as a reference as well as a hadith book.
About Imam Al-Bukhari
Muhammad bin Isma'il Al-Bukhari was born in Bukhara, in present-day Uzbekistan, in 194 AH (810 CE) and died near Samarqand in 256 AH (870 CE). He travelled through the Muslim world collecting hadith and accepted only reports that met very strict conditions on the reliability and meeting of their narrators. Muslim scholars agree that his Sahih is the most authentic book after the Book of Allah.
About the Translator, Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan
Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan was a physician who served at the Islamic University of Madinah. He translated the complete Sahih Al-Bukhari into English, and with Dr. Muhammad Taqi-ud-Din Al-Hilali he translated the meanings of the Qur'an in The Noble Quran. His translation is known for staying close to the Arabic and explaining terms in brackets, and the book includes a short biography of him.

How to Read It
Because the hadith are arranged by subject, you can read the book in order or go straight to the topic you need: the Book of Prayer before teaching children salah, the Book of Fasting before Ramadan, or the Book of Hajj before travelling to Makkah. Reading a few hadith a day, Arabic first and then the English, builds familiarity with the words of the Prophet ﷺ in his own language.
