Islamic Studies Grade 8 is the eighth-grade book in Darussalam's Islamic Education Series by Molvi Abdul Aziz. It is an English textbook for students aged around 13 to 14. It covers the Quran, Hadith, belief, worship, and character, and gives Arabic terms in their original script so students learn the words they use in prayer.
What Grade 8 covers
The book is split across six subjects that run through the whole series:
- Tafseer, the explanation of the Quran
- Hadith, the sayings and actions of the Prophet Muhammad
- Tawheed, belief in the Oneness of Allah
- Fiqh, Islamic rulings on worship and daily life
- Seerah, the life of the Prophet
- Islamic manners for different situations
Darussalam describes Grade 8 as the final year before the series moves to exam-style material. The writing changes to match. Obligations such as prayer and fasting are no longer described as things a child will do one day. They are presented as the student's own duties now.
How each lesson is laid out
Each lesson is written in English and ends with exercises that check understanding. Arabic words appear in Arabic script with transliteration and an English meaning next to them, so a student who reads little Arabic can still follow. Supplications (du'as) are printed in full Arabic for memorisation. The pages are illustrated in colour.
About the author
Molvi Abdul Aziz wrote every level of the series, from the early grades to Grade 12. Darussalam, the publisher, notes that he brought experience from the Ministry of Education in Dubai to the curriculum, which is one reason the series reads like a school textbook rather than a general reader.
Where Grade 8 fits in the series
If your child is between levels, here are the books on either side:
- Islamic Studies Grade 7, the year before
- Islamic Studies Grade 9, the year after
- Islamic Studies Grade 10
- Islamic Studies Grade 11 (A Core Text for O-Level)
- Islamic Studies Grade 12

Using it at home or in class
The book is designed to be taught one lesson at a time, with the exercises done straight after. In a classroom, teachers can take a lesson and its exercises together. At home, a parent can read a lesson with their child at the weekend and use the exercises during the week to check what has stuck.
A few habits make it work better. Read the Arabic terms aloud rather than skipping to the English, so the child gets used to hearing the words they will meet in prayer and in the Quran. Ask the child to memorise the supplications in each unit, not only read them. And link the Seerah and Fiqh lessons to real life: when a lesson covers prayer or fasting, practise it together that week. Because Grade 8 is the last year before the series becomes exam-focused, this is a good time to make sure the basics are solid before moving on to Grade 9.
Who this book suits
It is written for schools that teach Islamic studies in English, which makes it a good fit for international and private schools in the UAE. It also works for home study, weekend Islamic classes, and homeschooling. It is not the UAE Ministry of Education textbook, so if your school sets a specific book, check the book list first.
Frequently asked questions
Who wrote Islamic Studies Grade 8?
Molvi (also spelled Maulvi) Abdul Aziz wrote the whole Islamic Education Series, including Grade 8. Darussalam publishes it and describes him as an education specialist who worked with the Ministry of Education in Dubai.
What topics does the Grade 8 book cover?
Six areas: Tafseer, Hadith, Tawheed, Fiqh, Seerah, and Islamic manners for different situations. Every lesson ends with exercises.
Is the book written in English or Arabic?
The lessons are in English. Arabic terms and supplications appear in Arabic script, with transliteration and an English translation next to them.
Is this the official UAE Ministry of Education textbook?
No. It is Darussalam's own Islamic Education Series, written for schools that teach Islamic studies in English. If your child's school sets a particular textbook, check its book list before you order. It also works well for home study or weekend classes.
What age is Grade 8 for?
Grade 8 usually means students aged 13 to 14. Darussalam calls it the last year before the series becomes exam-focused, so it is a good time to build a solid base before O-Level work starts.

Grade 7 comes before it and Grade 9 comes after. On Darussalam UAE the series runs from KG 1 up to Grade 12, and Grade 11 is written as a core text for O-Level.

The book runs to 344 pages in full colour. Its ISBN is 9786035001038.
