What Is Tafsir As-Sa'di?
Shaykh As-Sa'di's tafsir, known in Arabic as Taysir al-Karim ar-Rahman fi Tafsir Kalam al-Mannan, is one of the most widely read explanations of the Qur'an of the modern era. Its strength is clarity. Instead of long discussions of chains of narration, grammar and differences of opinion, the Shaykh explains what each passage means, what lessons and rulings it contains, and how it relates to belief and daily life. He keeps to the explanation of the Qur'an by the Qur'an, the Sunnah and the understanding of the early generations, so readers get a reliable meaning without being overwhelmed.
That is why Tafsir As-Sa'di is so often recommended as the first full tafsir for English-speaking readers, and why teachers use it in study circles. Each passage can be read in a few minutes, yet it leaves the reader with a clear understanding of the verses and something to act on.
Which Surahs Are in Parts 28, 29 and 30?
This volume covers the last three parts of the Qur'an. Part 28 (Qad Sami'a) begins with Surah Al-Mujadilah and includes surahs such as Al-Hashr, Al-Jumu'ah and At-Talaq. Part 29 (Tabarak) begins with Surah Al-Mulk and includes Al-Qalam, Al-Haqqah, Nuh, Al-Muzzammil, Al-Muddaththir and Al-Insan. Part 30, Juz 'Amma, begins with Surah An-Naba and runs through the short surahs that Muslims recite most often in prayer, ending with Al-Falaq and An-Nas.
Because Juz 'Amma is usually the first part of the Qur'an that children and new Muslims memorise, this volume is a natural place to start: you learn the meaning of the surahs you already recite every day.
How Each Page Is Laid Out
Each section opens with the Arabic text of the verses, set in a framed box with verse numbers. The English explanation follows, with the meanings of the verses themselves shown in a second colour so you can tell the Qur'an's words apart from the Shaykh's commentary at a glance. Running headers at the side of the page show the name of the surah, and the clear type and 14x21 cm size make the book comfortable to read for long periods.
About Shaykh Abdur-Rahman As-Sa'di
Shaykh Abdur-Rahman Ibn Nasir As-Sa'di (1307–1376 AH, 1889–1956 CE) was a scholar of Unaizah in the Qassim region of Saudi Arabia. He taught tafsir, hadith, fiqh and Arabic for decades, wrote many books, and among his best-known students was Shaykh Muhammad ibn Salih Al-Uthaymeen. His tafsir remains his most famous work and is studied across the Muslim world.
How to Read This Book
Read one surah at a time, beginning with the short surahs of Juz 'Amma that you already know. Recite the surah in Arabic first, then read the Shaykh's explanation and return to the Arabic. Many readers use the book in Ramadan, reading the explanation of the surahs the imam recites in Taraweeh, or as a daily lesson with the family. The book is also a good companion when memorising, because knowing the meaning makes the words easier to remember.
Which Part Should I Buy?
Darussalam UAE stocks other parts of the same English tafsir. If you want to begin with Al-Fatihah and Al-Baqarah, choose Tafsir As-Sa'di Parts 01-02-03. For the whole Qur'an, see the Tafseer As-Sa'di 10 Volumes Set. If you only need the last three juz, this volume is the most practical choice.
